Website Wednesday — Don't Make Visitors Hunt for What They Need

Here's a simple website rule:

If visitors have to search for what they need, you may lose them.

Your website might contain everything a potential customer needs.

But that doesn't mean they'll find it.

Think Like a First-Time Visitor

You know your website.

You know where everything is.

Your customers don't.

When someone lands on your site, they shouldn't have to hunt for:

📞 Your phone number

📧 Your contact information

💰 Your pricing or quote information

🛠️ Your services

⭐ Your reviews

📍 Your location

👉 Your next step

The information may technically be there—but if it's difficult to find, that's still a problem.

Make Important Information Easy to Find

Your navigation should be simple and intuitive.

Your most important actions should be obvious.

For example:

Services → What do you offer?

About → Who are you?

Reviews → Why should people trust you?

Contact → How can people reach you?

And your most important call-to-action should appear where people can easily see it.

Try the "Lost Customer" Test

Pretend you've never visited your website before.

Give yourself one task:

"I want to contact this business."

Start from the homepage.

How long does it take?

How many clicks?

Do you have to search?

Do you have to scroll through multiple pages?

If you're struggling to find the answer, imagine how a potential customer feels.

Quick Action Step

Give your website to someone who isn't familiar with your business.

Ask them to find three things:

  1. What your business does

  2. How to contact you

  3. What they should do next

Don't help them.

Just watch.

Their confusion can reveal exactly where your website needs improvement.

Marketing Minute Takeaway

Your website isn't a treasure hunt.

Make important information easy to find.

The easier you make it for visitors to understand your business and take the next step, the fewer opportunities you'll lose because someone simply couldn't find what they needed.
