Terrific Thursday — Don't Make Your Customers Connect the Dots
You know your business inside and out.
You know your services.
You know what makes you different.
You know why customers should choose you.
But your customers don't.
And if your marketing doesn't explain those things clearly, you're making them connect the dots themselves.
That's a problem.
Don't Make People Guess
Imagine a business website says:
"Full-Service Digital Solutions."
Okay...
But what does that actually mean?
Web design?
Marketing?
SEO?
Social media?
Advertising?
A potential customer shouldn't have to guess.
Compare that with:
"We build websites and digital marketing strategies that help small businesses attract and convert more customers."
Now the picture is clearer.
Connect the Feature to the Benefit
Your marketing becomes much stronger when you connect:
What you offer → Why it matters
For example:
❌ "24/7 Customer Support"
✅ "Get help whenever you need it without waiting for the next business day."
❌ "Mobile-Friendly Website"
✅ "Give customers an easy way to find and contact you from their phone."
❌ "Free Consultation"
✅ "Get answers to your questions before deciding whether we're the right fit."
Don't just list the feature.
Explain the value.
Think About the Questions Behind the Questions
Your customer may ask:
"How much does it cost?"
But they're also thinking:
"Will this be worth it?"
They may ask:
"How long will it take?"
But they're also thinking:
"Can I trust you to get it done?"
They may ask:
"What do you offer?"
But they're really asking:
"Can you solve my problem?"
Good marketing answers both the obvious question and the concern behind it.
Quick Action Step
Pick one service on your website today.
Read the description.
Then ask:
"Have I explained what the customer actually gets from this?"
If you're only describing what you do, add a sentence explaining why it matters to them.
Marketing Minute Takeaway
Your customers shouldn't have to connect the dots between your service and their problem.
Connect them for them.
The clearer the connection between what you offer and what your customer needs, the easier it becomes for them to understand your value.
